NAME:  Rupert Giles

ROLE:  Giles is the watcher.  He is Buffy's mentor first and friend second.  He also has a job as the school librarian.  It's particularly handy that there's a job available at Sunnydale High school just as Buffy is moving there, and she needs a new watcher.

OTHER FACTS:  He's British and before he was a librarian at Sunnydale HIgh School he was rumoured to have worked at a British museum.

FIND HIM:  In a dark corner of the library looking things up in his books, and wearing  his rather plain and librarian-like clothes.

ROMANCE:  He's usually the watcher that always has his stuck in a book.

"Shouldn't  you go and look something up in your books?" -Buffy-

But the arrival of another teacher, Miss Calender means that there is some chemistry between the two.  Though Giles and Miss Calender did not get on the first time they met,  she helped him battle to lock away a demon that had been released by Willow.  She is well aware of what he does besides being a librarian, as she too battles evil.

DISLIKES:  Giles dislikes technology. He would rather have a old book.  It has depth and it is a comfort to him, and besides he's not too keen on computers as he is not an expert on them.
    But it's a good thing that he has those books.  Buffy and the gang have battled a lot of evil with the help of Giles and his books.

PERSONALITY:  He may seem rather stuffy at times, but Giles knows when to be funny and when to be serious.

"I'll just get into my time machine to the 12th Century and tell the vampires to postpone their ancient prophesy for a few days, while you take in dinner and a show."

"Do you want to do that last round again?  I thought it was rather sloppy."
"No, no you get back to class...while I'll wait for the feeling in my arms to return."

IS HE A BORING LIBRARIAN:  It turns out that Giles was wild in his younger years.  Giles was in a group who all has tatoos done.

"How is it you always know this stuff? You always know what's going on. I never know what's going on."
"You weren't here from midnight until six researching it."

MOST PAINFUL EPISODE:  In 'Ted', Miss Calender showed just how much of a pain in the butt she was, when she shot Giles' in the butt with an arrow.
